Should I call or text him? And when? Guys and girls advice please!?
I am recently single and met a guy last night at a concert. He approached me and to be honest I was very nervous, I didn’t say much because of my nerves. Anyway he suggested asked to catch up and gave me his card. So the ball is my court as to when I should contact him.
Good advice please… should I call him or text him? And how long should I wait? Does any of the dating game stuff really matter. Help, I am confused. Thanks.

I say text him in about two day’s with a simple – hows ur day going ? and of course tell him who u are.

Why does the "black community" seem to keep segregation alive?
This is not intended to offend anyone. I feel that every single person should be treated as an equal, no matter your religion, race, skin color, sexual preference, etc. is. But I am curious, why does the "black community" seem to keep segregation alive? I put it in quotes because I wish the adjective wasn’t necessary.

For instance, it seems that there are black-only groups, such as "black-owned radio stations," "black-owned businesses," etc.. I don’t see how this is necessary in these times. Whether a business is owned by a black person, white person, a male or a female, that shouldn’t put it in a different category from other businesses. Isn’t this what we’re trying to get away from?

What are your thoughts?

It’s not just the "black community" doing that, I mean every race that comes here opens up their own businesses, why can’t we?

racism prevented us because of the color of our skin, even today black americans are faced with racism. they celebrate this thing because in the past it was impossible for a black to own anything. in past, being black was the worst thing you could be, but now we are proud of it and are doing things to represent us.

There was a time when black people could not go here and there, etc. Therefore, black businesses began. Furthermore, there are some different needs that black people may have that others may not have (same with other groups), and who better than to start a business like that than a person of the same race?
Cindi | Nov 09, 2009

I completely and absolutely agree. I have said, many, many times that all that drawing attention to ONE RACE does, whether it’s for good or ill, is to separate the races even further.

If you want to glorify a person for being the first person to do something, that’s excellent. But, if you want to glorify him for being the first (insert race here) to do something, then you are being racist. It’s like you’re adamantly stating that race DOES matter, because you feel the need to bring it up.

The day we are all Americans, and African-American or Latin-American or Whatever-American is abolished; that’s when segregation will end.

I see all kinds of people just saying, lamely, "Well, white people wouldn’t let us have a culture as slaves, so we have every right, blah, blah, blah, weep, sob, moan, Obama, Sharpton, Dr. King…".

To them, I say, get OVER it. None of those things happened in your lifetime. It’s not 1959, it’s 2009. Black people are completely in control of America, because of white guilt, which is undeserved.

Just to balance things out; I don’t feel an ounce of guilt. I didn’t DO it, I didn’t BENEFIT from it, and I do not forgive or condone American history. I’m damned sure not gonna feel like I owe anybody in this land a single thing. You started off as an American, just like I did. Where you go from there is up to you. Don’t expect ME to give you a helping hand, or to take a handicap, just because 400 years ago, one of your ancestors was sold into slavery by his own (black) tribe leader.

why do we have television stations such as BET (black entertainment television)? Because black people want to see other black people in movies, and tv series etc. when NBC and CBS create a new tv show they aim it at the average viewer. the average viewer is white. black people want to watch something that was aimed towards them. as for the businesses, well I wouldn’t trust a white person to apply chemicals on my hair because their hair is different. you can have all the training in the world but unless you have to deal with it everyday, I don’t trust you. So I’m going to look for a black owned salon because I feel they’d know what they’re doing with my hair more

Let me know when they stop referring to us as "minorities" then maybe we can feel like were truly equal and not segregated.
Riddle me this | Nov 09, 2009

Very few Black groups do this now…not since the mid 1990s…

In any case, we are not the only people who have made a call to support businesses that have people of our own backgrounds.

I am old enough to remember (I was a very young child then) commericials with people singing "look for the Union label". There have been calls to support businesses in many other ethnic communities around the world. I know…I have been around the world to witness this happening.

There is also the issue of customer complaints…any executive or mid-level manager who wishes to be honest can tell you that people write companies/stores all the time asking "Why aren’t their more White cashiers?" or "Why aren’t their more American people working at your stores?"

The people concerned with whether or not a store is "Black owned" are concerned with the investment in a community. They are also concerned with who is hired and ultimately where that wealth will end up.

This discussion is another discussion that is best served in a forum where more characters can be posted.

It is also one that is impossible to discuss with someone who does not understand economic oppression or modelling.

i see what your saying but. i’ll use BET for an example.its a black corrprate station and its owned by a white guy. g what a surprise. there has been non black guests on t.v shows like 106 and park lady gaga and madonna justin timberlake robin thick. and roxci isnt black either. i know what a shocker. blacks arent any different from the hispanic soap oprea’s or latin t.v shows or stations. bet is almost like the cmt station for those who dont know thats the country music station. which is im sure more listened to by white people. but thats okay you see ever so now and then there is an actual black artist featured on cmt. you know a black country singer. us blacks arent rioting about that. we actually dont care. and never have i heard its a BLACK ONLY thing thats so 1950’s -60’s and offensive.

This is purely a personal opinion. But the way I see it is there was a point in time where it had to be that way and they only could rely on trust of one another.. It’s sad but that’s the way it was. Now that we’ve become such a melting pot i really don’t think there’s a place for that if we’re ever going to move on and better ourselves and the world around us.

If people want to be racist that’s their problem unless they start hurting folks otherwise I’d say it’s just poor business as everyone’s cash is green.

Anyone with a good business mind knows it’s not about what the consumer is but what the consumer wants.

Hell, Dr. Dre would be quite a few million $ shorter if he had an all black label and didn’t sign Eminem.

In the end it’s a preference and bad business.

Having said that I shall now stop rambling.

Hopefully it’s a part of the process of becoming a part of a multiracial society. Prejudices will always exist, and are usually held by less educated people. The problem seems that small racial groups (A.K.A. minorities) have historically had to band together to have a stronger voice. Most white people, the majority in the USA, have become much less prejudiced toward people of other races. They likewise expect similar attitudes from minorities, and find that minorities frequently still cling to their outdated belief that this will help them to prosper, when in fact the most prosperous people make no distinction by race. Unfortunately, minority groups, like black people, do a disservice to themselves by observing these old standards. Wasn’t there a black singing group that said to be color-blind? Good advice.

Illegal things going on in the work place?
-I began my job at the pre-school in June of 2009. My mom is the director and it is out of a church. All has been going well until September of this year. I was asked to work with an autistic boy named Sammy. He was allowed to come under the condition that I be with him every minute, as he cannot be in a classroom setting alone. I worked everyday with Sammy. We worked on numbers, letters, reading and writing. He was with me at all times. Then the person who does the scheduling put me on to do breaks. As far as I knew I would be getting paid for my time spent as the aide in the room. Legally state puts a teacher to child ratio in place for each age group. If I am in the room giving an aide or teacher a break I am legally needed in that classroom. They are over ratio for one person to be in the room alone.
I am also still being expected to be with Sammy though. Sammy’s foster mom is paying the center separate so I can work with him. This is not the center paying me. The way I see it is they have to pay someone regardless to be in the room when needed and if I am in there pay me! They wanted me to be responsible for Sammy but also work in the classroom. They only want to pay me for Sammy even though I preformed both tasks. The way I see it is this is illegal they are not paying me for both duties. The pastor of this church has always told me if I have any issues to come and talk with him. So I did. I made these points to him. He thinks of it as I am cheating him and trying to double bill him. When I see it as they are making money off me hand and fist. Sammy’s foster mom is paying me not them so they are getting free work! I told him I find it unfair. He disagreed. Which is fine and all but now he wants to fire me because I did not apologize for my
