question about MLA format annotated bibliography?
I am currently working on an english assignment which I have to work on annotated bibliography. Unfortunately, while I am trying to search using the MLA international bibliography database by key words like globalization or colonialism, I found nothing. I think I have probably misused the search function, for example I should have searched with some other key words? Actually I am trying to look for some secondary sources base on themes like "caste", "discrimination" and "extreme disparity between the rich and the poor" of my primary source which is a movie, and I am confused to find the secondary sources because I am not able to find anything using that search function. Therefore, could you please point out my problem using that search engine and teach me how to make good use of it? Thanks for reading my questions. ^^

the database search engine that I usually use….
 http://www.library.ualberta.ca/databases /
um.. i am actually working on literature but it doesnt seem like my school search database helped alot haha…

my primary source is actually the movie "slumdog millionaire" and what I fristly have to do is to find some themes of the movie base on the concept colonialism and/or globalization. and then I am required to search through the database for secondary source.. (i will need the five which fit and connected to my themes and lastly I have to create an annotated bibliography and list my five sources in correct MLA format. and I will just have to write for a couple sentences for each source telling how it is useful in analyzing my primary source.

by the way, I am wondering if the themes I have mentioned are appropraite for the movie slumdog millionaire? such as extreme disparity between rich and poor, caste, discrimination? I want to find some more meaningful themes which can include all the idea in the movie.

seriosuly thank you very much Ann ^^ thanks for helping

One of the best websites I’ve ever used for MLA is http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resour ce/557/01/
It is written simply, it has tons of examples, and it even has a sample paper to review.
If you have access to a college online library, check out the databases/journals. This is where most reliable secondary information will be. The more specific the search, the better your results will be.
Remember that secondary sources are things that are written (summarized) from a primary source. So when you search, it isn’t necessary to note that it is a secondary source.
It is my understanding that the MLA international Bibliography database is fundamental categories of information relevant to the study of literature, linguistics, and folklore. If this isn’t what you’re looking for, you won’t find it in that database.
I’ll gladly help more if you tell me more specifically what your paper is about…

Hey Jeff, let’s see if this helps. Slumdog is about a poor young man from India. He goes on a game show and knows all the answers. He’s arrested because they think he cheats. Blah, blah, blah. This is your primary research source. Now, you have to decide what you are going to do with this information. It sounds as tho you want to compare what you learned from the movie to…and here I’m guessing…the ‘real discrimination that American’s believe are truly happening in India’ (this would include the caste system and how undereducated the poor there are).
If that is the case, your secondary sources will be things like: (read the stuff on these websites and see if I’m helping you in the right direction)

All these sources are secondary sources.
Hope this helps.

In South Carolina can you be convicted of murder without a body? Corpus Delicti?
Were watching Double Jeopardy in my class and we have a report due on it; I’m taking Criminal Justice in college and I can’t remember and can’t find it online, anything about Corpus Delicti in SC. If the movie was real and took place in SC could the main character, Libby Parsons, be tried and convicted of the murder of her husband. They never found his body and that’s where Corpus Delicti comes in at because you have to prove someone was murdered. But in some states you don’t need a body. Please help me, I’m really confused

you could be charged with murder but w/o a body there’s a 98% u wont go to jail w/o one.

I think it would depend on the case. If there is video or a witness to the murder then you wouldn’t need the body. The evidence would have to be circumstantial.

Corpus Delicti means the body of the crime. It has little to nothing to do with a dead body.
The corpus delicti in a theft is showing that you stole the goods.

A definition from a law book for kids.
Noun1.corpus delicti – the body of evidence that constitute the offence; the objective proof that a crime has been committed (sometimes mistakenly thought to refer to the body of a homicide victim)

In all states in the US you can be convicted of murder without a body.

I’ll keep it simple. You video tape your murder of a subject. Then you get rid of the body and no one can find it. There are witnesses to the crime and one tried to help the victim and found him dead.

So in that case you are thinking that there can be no conviction without a body?

Yes, you can be convicted. Murder charges in the absence of a body are difficult to prosecute but they are not impossible.

A homicide must be shown to have been committed before a person can be charged with a murder. This is what "corpus delicti" means ie: the body of the crime.

It is NOT the physical body of a homicide but the direct/indirect circumstances that states that a crime has been committed.
