General’s Daughter, The (1999)
IMDB rating: 6.00
Plot: Military police detectives Paul Brenner and Sarah Sunhill investigate a horrifically bizarre rape and murder of a respected female Pysch-Ops officer who is also the daughter of a renowned retiring general. Yet the case becomes more complicated when the autopsy showed no evidence of sexual assault. Furthermore, that is but the beginning of the twists when they discover the victim’s secret life, her past and a disturbing determination by senior staff to keep this investigation short and quiet.

My daughter has been diagnosed w/ADD, general anxiety disorder, and a mild form of Trichotillomania?
She has a lot of difficulty in school w/ anxieties, but it not a behavior problem in any way. I tried to get 504 accomodations (test in another room, calculator, pacing of projects, sign agenda, etc) due to the anxieties, organizational issues and hair pulling, but the school declined. She will not voice any problems at school due to the anxieties, but brings them home to me. How can I get the school to understand that just because they don’t "see" any behavior problems, it doesn’t mean they aren’t there and affecting her? She’s come a long way (no more crying or panic attacks and the physical symptoms aren’t as severe). She is in private counseling and we do a lot of interventions at home…she hasn’t generalized those interventions to all classes yet, but it’s getting there. (She’s in 8th grade.) Thanks!
If your daughter goes to a Public School, and the school declined to have your daughter’s needs formally assessed and accommodated, you should threaten to go to the courts. It is illegal for them to deny your daughter the services she needs to succeed in school; they just don’t want to spend more money, which they are legally obligated to do.
If your daughter goes to a Private School, then threaten to pull her out; they do not have to comply with the same mandates.
In either case, ask the school for an IEP- individualized educational plan, for your daughter.
I wish both of you the best of luck.

The sister to 504 plans is IEP’s – and your daughter may need an iep [if she has a learning disability] – IEP’s have the same benefit and perhaps more weight in securing school compliance; and – if you look them up, you may find that you will get intouch with the Disabilities resource – I will try to look it up and post a link… 504’s are great, but unfortunately, it takes a lot of ‘fight’ to get a school / nurse to work with you… but not impossible – identify your allies – be armed w/knowledge of your rights, and find advocates; maybe your state has support groups for ADHD – etc…
You need support – and you have legal rights, your child has legal rights – and if your school does not comply, go to the principal, then move your way up til you find satisfaction… in some states, if they can not ‘accomodate your child’s needs’ the city has to pay for the child to go to a school where their needs can be met… Don’t give up – your child is worth your struggle, and remember, honey works better than vinegar…

I’m new to this and I apologize if I’m not using Yahoo Answer’s correctly- but I just wanted to comment out of support for you and your daughter. I randomly started reading your questions and was reminded of going through severe anxiety/depression (Body-Dismorphic-Disorder), and though it didn’t affect my school performance at the time, later with ADD- during my 8th grade year. When I saw your daughter is the same age, I just wanted to commend you for working with her and being so supportive and helpful- I think that is one of the most difficult ages/years in school especially when you feel so different and are terrified of anyone (except your trusted mother!) knowing you have difficulties! I used to cry and cry before getting out of the car to go to school that year, but hid any problem from anyone but my mother/father. My life changed dramatically when my parents got me help with counseling, and just knowing they were still supportive and unconditionally loving made me more accepting of myself during that time. I would also think your daughter’s private counselor could write a letter in support of her need for accomodations so the issue is clear for the school, and explained by an outside source other than your daughter, so she doesn’t feel so uncomfortable making a big deal of it face to face. Best to your family and especially your girl!

Hey, I understand how you feel…
The uncomfortable symptoms like sweaty palms, "jelly" legs, extreme alertness, "impending doom" feeling and the fight-or-flight response.
I’ve been there. I’m an ex-victim. Sometimes the deep breathing or distraction techniques doesn’t work – a full-blown panic or anxiety attack happens later.
Sometimes you experience panic attack out of the blue and such.
Do NOT buy Panic Away, Linden Method, EasyCalm or the Panic Puzzle. They do NOT work – I’ve tried them and their solutions are similar – it DOESN’T WORK.
Medications do NOT work – I was under many antidepressants (Prozac, Lexapro, Paxil and Zoloft) and anti-anxiety medications (Ativan, Klonopin, and Xanax) but my condition was the same – no improvement at all.
The only program that really work is The Panic Attack Solution. It’s found by an ex-victim. You can check out his old blog in his official website to read up some useful tips.
But the package is the best – it teaches 17 powerful techniques and the real solution to panic attacks. I’ve bought it and it really helped me – it’s the BEST anti-anxiety package or book I’ve read.
His theory really makes sense and it works effectively!
You will learn why your panic attacks can happen without warning sometimes; why having stimulant causes panic attacks; and many-many other useful tips!
